The Roast House: Don’t Go

Gili Trawangan, Lombok, Indonesia

While normally the reputation of a restaurant depends on its food, my qualm against Gili T’s Roast House is the music. The playlist chosen for this place includes everything that is the basest of the worst music you’ve never heard. We heard songs about rape, songs with large doses of swearing and racial slurs.

The command to “keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper. Don’t ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise (Phil. 4:8)” has never been practiced here. Changing tracks only supplied our ears with another version of horrible. Somehow even that country song about getting drunk on a plane made it in there. Who wants to listen to country, especially the worst of country? I thought I had escaped all that moving from NC. (okay, so some people like country.)

The Roast House is highly recommended online as a place for good, large portions of food at a decent price. The food wasn’t bad, though the hamburgers were made out of some kind of meatloaf that wasn’t all meat. So why bother? My advice: don’t go.
